  • Standpipe Systems

    Standpipe systems are a series of pipes that connect a water supply to hose connections that fire departments use.  However,  there are also standpipes that are designed for building occupants to use,  but it isn't designed to be used by fire departments.

  • Wet and Dry Sprinkler Systems

    Wet sprinkler systems are connected to pipes filled with pressurized water that immediately discharges in the event that a fire occurs.  Wet sprinkler systems are the easiest to install and maintain, however, the pipes are at risk of freezing in cold temperatures.


    Dry sprinkler systems are connected to pipes that contain pressurized air or nitrogen that prevents water from flowing.  When the sprinkler is activated, the pressure drops and allows the water to flow through the system. Dry sprinkler systems can also be installed as an addition to a wet pipe system to protect it from freezing temperatures.

  • Backflow Preventers

    Backflow preventers can be installed on water pipes so that water is allowed to flow in only one direction.  These are particularly important for buildings where the sprinkler systems are hooked up to the same pipes that supply water for other purposes in the building (eg. drinking water, bath/shower, etc.).  Backflow preventers help keep the water from being contaminated by debris or other toxins.

  • Pre-Action Fire Sprinkler Systems

    Pre-action fire sprinkler systems are similar to dry sprinkler systems in that water is not actually contained in the pipes.   However, the water is held back from the pipes by an electronically operated valve that is controlled by heat or smoke detection.  Once the valves release and allow water into the system, the individual sprinkler heads must also be released to allow water to flow through.  This helps protect the system from accidentally activating.

  • Fire Pumps

    Fire pumps are used to increase the pressure of the water flowing through the sprinkler system.  Most building codes have requirements regarding sprinkler systems that usually include a minimum requirement for water pressure.  While municipal water systems often supply enough water pressure, fire pumps are used when the water pressure is insufficient.
